How did we meet?

Like many couples these days, we met on a dating app, in February of 2023. Our first date was at The Crunkleton in Chapel Hill, where Emma impressed Carter with her “love” of old-fashioned cocktails (even though he found out many months later that she doesn’t like them at all). They would come to realize that even though they both attended UNC Chapel Hill for 2 overlapping years, they never crossed paths while in school. Over the coming weeks, the couple enjoyed a few more dates together at some local Chapel Hill establishments, scheduling around Emma's nursing school and Carter's baseball schedule, before becoming "official" in April 2023. While dating they've enjoyed time together at Nags Head and the North Carolina mountains, and spending time with each other's family and friends. And attending many UNC athletic events of course!

Proposal Story

In early July 2025, Carter planned a weekend summer get-away for the couple to visit North Topsail Beach to enjoy some time at a beach that Carter's family has been going to for many years. Little did Emma know, Carter was planning for the trip to be much more than that. After the couple spent a couple of hours on the beach, they came up to the condo to rest and get ready for dinner. After Emma took an afternoon nap, Carter was able to convince her to go for a short walk on the beach before leaving for dinner. Emma agreed to go, while slightly confused why Carter wanted to go for a walk in the clothes they would ultimately wear for dinner. After making it about 25 yards down the beach, Carter dropped to a knee and asked Emma to marry him. She happily said "YES!" The couple enjoyed a nice dinner at the Beach Grill in Topsail Beach that evening before a surprise dinner with their families at the Angus Barn in Raleigh on Sunday evening to celebrate the news!
